How can I stop the high pitched squeal my laptop speakers make constantly?
The noise my machine is making sounds similar to how a ZX spectrum used to sound when it was loading a game,(showing my age) its kind of digital computer noise and it is definately coming through the audio output speakers / headphones. It does seem to stop when I plug my ext hard drive in to the usb port though.
you are having RF interference. This is a common issue with many laptops most of the time it has to due with optical drives so if you can adjust the speed in the bios for those it might help. But the problem is because the sound is not isolated from the rest of the systems on your computer. You could try replacing the system board but that may not guarantee a solution. The but way to solve the issue if you want good sound is to use a PCMCIA card from creative that is a self contained sound card and powered through the PCI bus on your laptop. I have one in my machine because I had the same issue and it bothered me.
