How To Avoid Lasting Damage With A Computer Keyboard
Hardly anyone would place the modern computer keyboard in the rank of medieval torture devices such as the rack or iron maiden, and yet today there are tens of thousands of people in whom the keyboard strikes the same terror as felt by those of that heinous era. These modern individuals are people crippled, or in the processed of being crippled, by the enormous stresses placed upon their bodies by the daily utilization of this device. The livelyhoods of many people have been permanently disrupted. Other people just soldier on and grin and bear the pain of using their keyboards so as to avoid jeopardising their jobs or having to voluntarily quit them. The jobs that people risk losing are often well paid professional careers that are not easily replaced. More often than not, those who suffer tend to carry on and mask out the pain until it becomes impossible to deny it anymore. However it does become too late, and serious damage can occur causing lasting complications for the computer user.
With the increase encroachment of the computer with a keyboard and mouse When used regularly in the office or school environment, people in general face injury on a regular basis. Recognition of the problem, development of alternative computer interface technologies, and integration of such technologies into the workplace and classroom is a slow moving process. It will also demonstrate that the time has come to rethink the modes in which we interface with computers, and to begin to effect a transition from the outdated mode of keyboard input, in which the human is forced to adapt to the machine, to new modes of input, in which the machine’s power is harnessed to adapt it to the user.
Meanwhile manufacturers still pour research into the development of new wired keyboards and wireless keyboards to maximise the potential of a ever-expanding market.
