The AKG C214 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
The AKG C214 is an outstanding performance microphone that is suitable for recording a variety of instruments without the hefty price tag. The AKG C 214 was designed by AKG as an economical alternative to the market leading C414 microphone range.
The C214 Microphone captures sound combining one side of the renowned C414 dual-capsule system and AKG’s patented Back-Plate Technology which produces performance quality that nears the C414 for half the cost. The AKG C214 is capable of managing the demands of high-pressure sound such as amplified guitars whilst also being perfect for softer sounds such as voice and string instruments. The C214 works well with vocals and speech, piano and organ and acoustic/electric guitars, but not quite as well with electric bass. The microphone performs well on drums – particularly for overheads, and is also effective for recording any acoustic string instruments.
The C214 can cope with an impressive 143dB dynamic range with it's 1-inch edge-terminated large diaphragm capsule. The sonic precision of the C214 is further improved by the inclusion of integrated capsule suspension that reduces mechanical noise and resonance. The all-metal die-cast body provides a high degree of RF-immunity and has a shock- and scratch-resistant matte greyish-blue finish with a rugged double mesh grille to protect the capsule. The C214 Microphone has low self-noise, at just 13dB(A), along with very high headroom, and will work with phantom power sources ranging from 12 to 52V. Also, by switching in the pre-attenuation pad, you can increase the microphone's headroom by 20dB when you are recording very loud sound sources such as drum kits, guitar amps or trumpets, thus preventing the microphone's output from overloading the input of the mic preamplifier.
