What pieces do I need for my pressure cooker?
I recently got a pressure cooker from my aunt's m.i.l. but i think it's missing some pieces i will need to replace but I'm not sure what all I'll need, please bear with me as i have never had one before and don't know what I'm talking about really....
I have the pan and the lid, of course, and the cooker rack and there a little metal bit sticking out the the top (the vent pipe i believe),
I know I do need a sealing ring but what else do I need to get cooking? can anyone help me out?
Just in case you need or want to know, it's a Presto cook-master cooker model 404, it's a 4 quart. And yea it's old. but what i do have looks in great condition.
you need the pan, the lid, the weight that goes on the vent and the sealing ring. be sure to have the sealing ring checked once a year to make sure it still functions correctly. if not, get a new one (the only part that might need to be replaced). also check that the vent is clear and not plugged up. that WILL make a difference.
be sure you check with someone (the manufacturer or a web site) to find out which foods should not be pressure cooked. pea soup comes to mind but there may be others.
check with your library or amazon.com for books specifically about pressure cooking. it can be a real time saver if you know what you're doing.
